BlackRock published its 2026 Global Insurance Survey on 27 October 2026. The survey, conducted from June to September 2026 by an external agency on behalf of BlackRock, canvassed 463 senior insurance executives across 31 markets with investable assets of more than $24tn. Twenty-five per cent of respondents were from Asia-Pacific.
According to BlackRock, more than 40 per cent of global insurers allocate over 15 per cent of portfolios to private markets, while 92 per cent allocate at least 5 per cent. Seventy-six per cent plan to increase private markets allocations over the next 12 months, led by private debt which 41 per cent identified for higher allocation. Eighty-four per cent describe their asset management approach as hybrid, and 49 per cent expect to increase their use of external asset management over the next 12 months. Inflation remains the top macro concern at 62 per cent.
More than 40 per cent of global insurers are now allocating over 15 per cent of their investment portfolio to private markets, with 76 per cent planning further increases.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority on 26 October 2026 released interim results for the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation, which reported an adjusted profit after tax of HK$1,083 million for the first half of 2026 and a capital adequacy ratio of 18.6 per cent.
The findings indicate continued expansion of private market exposure among insurers, particularly private debt, alongside greater reliance on external managers within hybrid models that support income, liquidity and capital objectives.
