Asia-Pacific family offices recorded the strongest year-to-date portfolio performance and the highest return ambitions of any region in the 2026/27 Citi Wealth Global Family Office Report. The survey, which drew responses from 351 family offices across 41 countries, including 22 per cent from Asia-Pacific, also identified artificial intelligence as the leading sector for new direct-investment capital.
Globally, 13 per cent of family offices reported gains above 15 per cent, while 36 per cent recorded increases of 5–10 per cent. Only 5 per cent of respondents experienced negative returns.
The dominant global target remained 7–10 per cent, selected by 41 per cent of all respondents. In Asia-Pacific the 7–10 per cent band was chosen by 31 per cent of respondents, lower than in other regions.
The survey found family offices combining innovation-focused direct investments with more traditional areas that offer scale and resilience.
The outperformance and higher return targets recorded by Asia-Pacific family offices reflect both regional market conditions and a still-elevated share of first-generation wealth creators. Second, the clear preference for AI as a direct-investment theme indicates that family offices are treating technological transformation as a core, rather than peripheral, allocation decision. Third, the willingness of APAC respondents to reassess strategy at more moderate drawdown levels (37 per cent would review after an 11–15 per cent decline) suggests a more active risk-management posture than in some other regions.
